Valery Kharchenko after the concert among the defense warriors The life
of our famous city of Dnipro kobzar Valeriy Kharchenko is now, as a whole, same
as the fate of our wounded Ukraine-mother. Before his eyes: a burnt down home
and a sick wife. Yet Mr. Valery is not down. In spite of everything, kobzar
Valeriy is a frequent visitor to the war front lines where he entertains
Ukrainian troops with his singing and his Kobza playing.Mr. Valeriy has
traveled many the checkpoints and military units , and everywhere, the
defenders of the Motherland anticipate and enjoy the free concerts of this
Ukrainian kobzar, for quite like it was in Ukraine all the centuries ago a
kobzar remains a people's minstrel: the voice and the soul of our Ukrainian nation.
No wonder that Valeriy Kharchenko's songs penetrates deeply into the hearts of
the defenders of our Fatherland, and just like centuries ago Ukrainian people
are nourished by the kobzar's song and there is a strong belief, that despite
the heavy weight of the fate,we will overcome all the enemies, because
Ukrainians who are descendants of the Zaporozhian Cozacks, are invincible as
long as the ancestral songs are alive in Ukrainian soul" So wrote about
Valery Kharchenko, a well-known Ukrainian kobzar, winner of the festivals of
the Ukrainian song festival "Oberih" and "Chervona Ruta", a
volunteer performer for the Ukrainian troops of this war with Russian invader,
a Dnipro city journalist Anfisa Bukreyev two years ago in the Ukrainian
newspaper "Day", "Ukraina Moloda"( Mr.V.Kharchenko's house
was arsoned on October 29, 2014, and his appeal for help was aired on the First
National TV Channel, "Radio Liberty", in many regional information
media). However, despite all this, the kobzar is still in dear need of help.
For the absence of any tangible help, Valery Kharchenko turned to the Ukrainian
weekly "Bridge", and through that- to the Ukrainian diaspora of
America, : --My dear friends, colleagues and patriots of Ukraine !!! There is a
war and we are very hard at this time. My house was burned and I was left
without anything. After the arson my wife had a stroke and ended up with a
bulbar paralysis, she can not speak and has difficulties with eating. In such a
terrible state of health my wife and I continue living in the small hut that
used to be our out-door summer kitchen. The place has no heating or plumbing
and wasn't built to be used as a place of permanent living. On the terrible
night of arson my wife and I were awakened and so rescued by a refugee from Luhansk,whom
we had given a temporal shelter in our summer kitchen. This war regugee saw a
flame and woke us up. We jumped out of the burning house with only our night
shirts on. It took the fire brigade entire half-an-hour to arrive, and then it
turned out their water hoses were torn and badly leaking. When the firemen were
finished, practically everything was burned down. For the fourth year we live
now in a small summer kitchen which is more like a shed. The authorities
promised to help restore the house, but that help barely covers the expense of
drugs for my wife. I knocked at every door of the city authorities, sent
letters to deputies and everywhere possible, but all my appeals were redirected
to the city mayor's office. And there one official simply told me : There is
war in the country and all the funds are for ATO. I explained but to no avail
that my house was arsoned by the pro-Russian elements in the neighbourhood
(everyone knows,that Russia supports a huge 5th column in the city of
Dnipro),precisely because I was always very outspoken about the Russian
invasion of Ukraine,was active as a patriot of Ukraine in supporting our troops
: taking drugs and other supplies for our soldiers in ATO, visited the front
lines with concerts,etc. However as of now, I'm left alone with my problems and
all I'm left with is to hope in the help of good people.( The Private Property
and Health insurance doesn't exist in Ukraine, so the restoration of the burnt
house and the continued treatment of my wife Victoria is now in need of moral
and material support of people of good will. Only the house repair requires
10.000 USD. !...) So, I appeal to all Ukrainians who will be indifferent to our
trouble: Please help, good people ! Do not let my sick wife and myself be
